LunchServeJA is a school lunch system operated by Best Jamaican Experience ("we", "us"). This policy explains what personal information the platform holds, why, and the rights people have under Jamaica's Data Protection Act, 2020.
Who is responsible
Each school that uses LunchServeJA decides what student and staff information is loaded and how it is used. The school is the data controller for that information. We store and process it for the school, on the school's instructions, as its data processor. If you are a parent, guardian, student or member of school staff, your school is your first point of contact.
We are the data controller only for our own business records: the details of school contacts, quote requests sent through this website, invoices and support messages.
Information the platform holds
- Students: name, school ID number, class, an optional photo, whether the student receives PATH lunch support, the date and time of each meal served and, where the school uses prepaid lunch accounts, the balance and purchases.
- School staff: name, email address, role, a record of actions taken in the system and, where the school uses staff credit, canteen purchases.
- School contacts and people who request a quote: name, school, phone number, email address and the message sent.
- Technical records: sign-in times, the device and browser used, and IP address, kept for security.
The platform does not hold home addresses, parent details, medical information, grades or bank card numbers. The code printed on a student card is a random number and carries no personal information.
Why it is used
- To identify a student at the canteen and record the lunch served.
- To give the school accurate reports on its school feeding programme and canteen.
- To keep the system secure and provide support to the school.
- To answer quote requests and bill schools for their subscription.
We do not sell personal information, use it for advertising, or share one school's information with another school.
Who can see it
Staff at the school see only what their role requires. Our support staff may view a school's records only to provide support, and that access is logged. Information is stored with our hosting provider in Jamaica. Subscription payments from schools are processed by Fygaro, which does not receive student information. We disclose information where the law requires it.
How long it is kept
Schools decide how long student and staff records are kept, in line with their own retention rules. When a school stops using LunchServeJA we return its data and delete it from our systems as set out in our agreement with the school. Our own business records are kept for as long as tax and accounting law requires.
Security
Each school's records are kept separate. Access is by individual sign-in with a role, connections are encrypted, passwords are stored in hashed form, scanning devices are registered, and changes are recorded in an audit log.
Your rights
You may ask to see the personal information held about you or your child, ask for it to be corrected, and object to how it is used. A parent or guardian may act for a child. Send the request to your school, which will respond within the time the Act allows. For information we hold as controller, contact us using the details below. You may also complain to the Office of the Information Commissioner of Jamaica.
Changes
We will post any change to this policy on this page with a new date.
